My Ocean series came about from a trip to Glacier Bay Alaska two years ago. Since then I have taken photographs here in Santa Monica Bay, in the San Pedro channel, Catalina Island and in the British Virgin Islands. The photographs reflect my fascination with the surface of the ocean. The surface is always changing: no two moments are the same. Waves are fleeting, lasting for seconds or minutes. It is interesting that the ocean covers more than 80% of the earth’s surface but there are few engaging photographs to be seen. You might see photographs of a raging storm but not the quiet beauty of the ocean’s surface. The work has been well received. Four prints are in a group show at the Angels Gate Gallery in San Pedro, CA. Currently I’m represented by the Susan Spiritus Gallery in Newport Beach, CA. I’ve also sold a number of 30 x 40 inch prints to friends and families. My career is in commercial, advertising photography but now I’m pretty much semi-retired. I created photographs for annual reports, catalogs, brochures and ads. This work is my most recent fine art. My last work
was mixed media photography on homeless and ex-gang members. Each piece
contained a tape player that played back my interview of the subject.
The work did extremely well in non-profit, and university galleries in-group
and solo shows. The work is what I call hard art. No one bought a piece
but they received great reviews.
